Friends Of The Somme - Mid Ulster Branch
In the lead up to Remembrance Day, we were delighted to welcome Dessie Gordon and Ivor Faulkner into school today, to talk to the children about the Second World War, both at home, and those away on the front. The children were also shown some articfacts and equipment from the time.
As you can see, the children were also delighted to get to see ‘Sarge’, a 1942 Ford GPW that was produced for the war effort by the Willys and Ford companies.
It was wonderful for the children to also hear about local connections to the war, including stories of my own Graet Great Uncle, Isaac Black.Ballytrea Primary Schoolssie and Ivor, for visiting Ballytrea Primary School today and speaking with our children. It may have even slipped out that Dessie is also a past pupil of Ballytrea!!
Sharing stories from important events in history is really important in the learning journey of our pupils, and today was once again another day that they will remember for a very long time!
