Communication Day

2nd Apr 2025
What a special morning our Key Stage 2 pupils had today, as they welcomed some pupils from Friends of Sperrinview to Ballytrea Primary School, to help us with our studies about Communication.

In class, our older children have been learning all about different ways in which people communicate, both in the past and in modern times.

Letters, emails, talking, smoke signals and podcasts; you name it the children have explored it.

In more recent weeks, the children have been learning about ways in which people can communicate if they can’t talk.

So today, pupils from Sperrinview came to Ballytrea to teach us how to use Makaton!

Makaton is a communication program that uses signs, symbols, and speech to help people with learning or communication difficulties express themselves and understand others.

What a wonderful morning we had, as we learned some new signs and actions, and made some very special new friends.

Thank you so much to the staff and children from Sperrinview for coming to Ballytrea. For showing us how to sign, for singing to us and for sharing some play time with us outside! Your goal celebrations were the best!

We hope you enjoyed your day as much as we enjoyed ours!

More very special learning opportunities and memories for our pupils!
