Antarctic

4th Nov 2024
We were thrilled to welcome former Ballytrea Primary School pupil, Patrick Harkness, back into school this afternoon to talk with the children about his amazing work with the British Antarctic Survey.

It was amazing for the children to hear all about his exploration and engineering work in Antarctica, where he has been working to find solutions for drilling down miles underground!

From his early school days of wanting to design spacecrafts, to now working in some of the coldest locations on the planet, it was fantastic for the children to listen to and question Patrick about life on the South Pole!

Having former pupils of Ballytrea, from various fields of work, come into school and talk to the children about their various job roles is really insightful and important, and shows our pupils that there are amazing opportunities for everyone out there if they put their mind to it and work hard!

Thank you once again for coming in to speak to the children today, Patrick, and best wishes with your next trip to the Antarctic in the coming weeks.

We look forward to hearing all about how you got on in the New Year!
